Lesson plan template
A one-lesson plan for any subject and grade: learning objectives, the standard or outcome you are teaching, materials, a timed outline from warm-up through direct instruction, guided and independent practice to wrap-up, differentiation for students who need support or extension, assessment and homework. Give the AI your topic, grade and lesson length and it drafts a plan you can adjust to your class.
Templates
- Lesson plan (document): Plan a class period with objectives, standards, materials, a timed warm-up, instruction, practice and assessment.
- Lesson presentation (presentation): Teach a topic with objectives, key ideas, an example, a class activity and a recap.
How to use these templates
- Open the lesson plan and tell the AI the subject, grade, topic and length, for example "Grade 5 maths, equivalent fractions, 45 minutes".
- Paste the standard, learning outcome or syllabus line you are teaching, so the objectives match it.
- Adjust the timings to your class and list the materials you actually have, then plan support and extension for your students.
- Download as Word for your records or for an observer, and build slides for the lesson with the lesson presentation template.
Planning a lesson that works
- Write objectives as things students will be able to do, with a verb you can check: explain, solve, compare, write.
- Plan the assessment before the activities, so every activity leads towards it.
- Keep direct instruction short, then give students time to practise while you move around the room.
- Plan differentiation for real students: what will the student who finishes early do, and what support will the student who is stuck get?
- Leave a few minutes at the end for an exit question. It tells you where to start next time.
- After teaching, add a line on what worked and what to change.
Frequently asked questions
What are the parts of a lesson plan?
Objectives, standards or outcomes, materials, a sequence of activities with timings, differentiation, assessment and homework. Many schools also ask for a reflection after teaching.
Does it work for CBSE, Common Core or the UK National Curriculum?
Yes. The structure works with any curriculum. Paste the learning outcome or standard and the AI aligns the objectives and assessment with it.
What are gradual release and the 5E model?
Two ways of sequencing a lesson. Gradual release moves from teacher modelling ("I do") to guided practice ("we do") to independent work ("you do"), which is how this template is laid out. 5E stands for engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate; ask the AI to restructure the plan that way if your school uses it.
Can I plan a whole unit?
Use one plan per lesson, and ask the AI for a unit overview that lists the lessons in order, then plan each lesson from it.
